Michigan events

MOHR's legislative officer, Phil Greene, chaired the "Bring Michigan into the 20th Century" Conference at Most Holy Trinity Family Center, Detroit on March 24, 1979.

The session was sponsored by MOHR in co-operation with the Association of Suburban People (ASP).

The conference was to help eliminate the repressive sex laws of Michigan hy legalizing certain consenting sex acts.

Phil discussed the current sex laws.

· Bob Lundy, Policy Council Chairperson for MOHR and a member of the Michigan State Bar gave a strong push for the revised Criminal Code Proposel.

After lunch, the meeting continued with Phil outlining a process the proposal will follow in Lansing.

George Painter, Lobbyist from the Ohio Gay Rights Coalition (OGRC) presented some ideas on how to influence the process for lobbying.

Phil is anxious to present such a meeting in other areas. Contact Phil at the MOHR office.

Grand Rapids' Monday Night Rap Group plans to hold such a legislation session before July.

This 20th Century meeting has resulted in plans to hold a "Women and Michigan Law" in Grand Rapids---hopefully in May. 14 14

Recall for Action. The committee working to save the Cleveland Gay Community Center continues to work at high speed. Volunteers hve sent letters to many gay-oriented businesses. Soon representatives of the "Supportive Friends of the GCC" will be contacting these places to find out what they think they can do to keep the Center financially sound. The next meeting of the "Supportive Friends" is May 8, 8:00, at the Center. We'll review suggestions from the businesses. There must be hundreds of Gays in the Greater Cleveland area who have used the Center and would like to see it continue and expand its operations. Join us May 8 at the Center.
